Now it was already the week before Christmas, during which Franzi could luckily stay in New York. However, Alex unfortunately had to be in Chicago to start on a new project. The week consisted mostly of closing off open items before the holidays and finalizing the last Christmas presents in a snowy New York. Alex went to an ice hockey game with his colleagues, seeing the Chicago Blackhawks play against the Colorado Avalanche.
Preparing for Christmas
On Saturday we planned out our Christmas dinner and bought all needed ingredients. In the morning Franzi took over a shift with Muddy Paws at Madison Square Park, a volunteering activity she recently started to support finding new owners for adoptable dogs. In the evening we met our friend Jay and had dinner at a Japanese restaurant.
On Sunday we started the day with getting some bagels and bought a small Christmas tree across the street. Then we had a relaxed breakfast and Franzi received a beautiful gift in the advent calendar from her parents – a ring her father gifted her mother about 35 years ago. Franzi was so happy to have the honor to wear it from now on.
Later in the day we walked all the way up to the Rockefeller Center to have a look at the famous New York City Christmas lights. The city and department stores put on quite the show, however it was a little to crowded to get into a tranquil Christmas mood. We ended the weekend with a homecooked dinner and decorating our miniature Christmas tree.
