Old school Jazz in Williamsburg

Already the last weekend of January – crazy how time flies!

This week it was back to Santa Ana, California for Franzi and Alex stayed in New York for work. Overall, a work week as usual – nothing crazy to be reported. Staying in the city Alex had a chance to follow our “old” morning routine on the way to the office – a cappuccino and a croissant at Everyman Espresso.

Perfect start into the day…
A little different from Franzi’s breakfast…

Back in New York, on Friday, we visited our friends Marlene and Hendrik in Williamsburg and went to the Williamsburg Music Center, a small jazz club. Every Friday, Gerry Eastman leads his ensemble featuring Taru Alexander on drums, Greg Lewis on organ, Andrew Schwandt on sax and many others. Other than some bigger Jazz clubs in Manhattan this club is a hidden jam. The entire place look pretty improvised and feels more like a living room with a stage than a music club. Before heading back home to Manhattan, we finished the night with some top-notch cocktails at Fresh Kills Bar.

On Saturday we crossed some things off our To-Do list and strolled around Nolita. We had a snack at the French Café Gitane and then spontaneously went for a relaxing massage at our favorite place Wu Lim. Even though the outside looks slightly questionable, the staff is super friendly, and we recommend John if you need someone to massage a 6’6’ guy with enough strength.

Sunday was Taco night with fresh guacamole and a good movie.
