The second week of June, Franzi went to Madison and Alex stayed in New York. The week started off very foggy, but from Tuesday on the weather was fantastic.
During the week, a colleague and good friend of Alex – Marco – was in town so it was a fortunate coincidence that Alex was not travelling this week. Following some beers at The Copper Still, they enjoyed some Tacos and Margarita’s at Rosie’s before Marco had to fly back to Zurich the next day.
Friday was a proud day, because it was the Pride Event in the Office! Our firm really celebrates diversity and has a great network and many great initiatives in place to ensure equality. The session in the office was very enlightening – it was composed of a training session on unconscious bias by our lovely colleague and friend Laura and a panel discussion.
Friday after work it was time for our office summer party. We went to the PHD Terrace in Midtown, met some new faces and had some good laughs.
After the official party, we followed the crowd to a BYOB (Bring your own booze) Karaoke spot in Korea town. It was a pleasant surprise to see that our colleagues also enjoy some more basic localities which reminded us of Berlin. We spend the night singing accompanied by beer and Pizza.
Since we realized then and there that we’d never been to Korea town, we decided to explore it further on Saturday. Korea town is also called K-Town and is an ethnic Korean enclave in Midtown Manhattan, centered on West 32nd Street between Madison Avenue and the intersection with Sixth Avenue and Broadway, which is known as Greeley Square. We strolled through the streets and enjoyed the exotic views. To make the experience complete we had some Frozen Yoghurt from Pinkberries and an authentic Korean snack.
On our way through the Fashion District, we did a little excursion into ‘Mood’, a fabric store known from the show “Project Runway”. We then headed to Hudson Yards by foot and looked around the huge mall for a while.
This weekend Alex also got to pick up his (hopefully) finally fixed motorcycle from the dealership after another need for repairs. On Sunday Alex invited Franzi for dinner at our favorite Mexican place in the neighborhood – La Palapa – to celebrate her promotion to manager. We said cheers with Margaritas and rolled home after a delicious meal.
