NYC Pride Weekend

Another week, another flight – Franzi went back to California Monday evening. Meanwhile, Alex stayed in NY. We started the Monday morning with our new tradition to stop by at Everyman Espresso to get a Croissant and a Cappuccino. Since we got to know the dog of one of the baristas – Lady – we enjoy the visits even more.

Back in NY on Friday, Franzi had a training on Apprenticeship to learn what it means for the company and consultants individually. The training had great facilitators and was very helpful. Luckily, our company offers interesting training very regularly to foster personal and professional development. Friday night, we met with some friends from Germany, Olli and Zans (Technically, Olli is a friend of Alex mum). We met at Grand Central Station and later had some Ramen at Momosan for dinner. Afterwards, we walked to Hell’s Kitchen and ended up in the REBAR, which is a well-known gay bar. It was packed already at 9:30 PM. The atmosphere was great, and it felt like everyone was having the time of their life.

Saturday was relatively uneventful, we walked around in Greenwich and West Village and just enjoyed the city. However, this weekend was big for New York – it was the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which changed the world for the LGBTQ+ community. On June 28 in 1969 a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations started-off after a police raid in the Stonewall Inn Bar in the Greenwich village. This event paved the way for gay liberation and the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. We stopped by the Stonewall National Monument, which was decorated with pride flags and assembled a large crowd of people.

On Sunday it was time for the annual pride parade. Before going to a pride party, Alex met up with a friend at Jane Motorcycles in Brooklyn to enjoy a good coffee.

Later in the day we took of to the Flatiron district, where we were invited to a pride rooftop party. The location was right by 5th avenue, which allowed us to watch the parade! The parade went on from 11 AM to 8 PM and was a flow of impressive costumes and empowering vibes. We enjoyed some great Mexican food, Margaritas and interesting conversations at the party and even got a little goodie bag with a pride T-Shirt and pride-themed chocolates in the end.
