Finally, our travel schedules aligned and we both got to spend a week in New York. In case you read our blog on a regular basis you will know that this is really rare and exciting for us. Finally, some quality time and a “normal life” during the week. Monday night, Franzi went out for drinks with Priya – if you remember from the driver’s license post, she was the one helping us out to be able to do our test! They went to The Bar Downstairs, which offers great drinks. Tuesday night we went to Spiegel to have dinner and meet up with some friends.
Once the work week was over, we kicked-off the weekend with a visit to Boris & Horton, a dog café around the corner which always brightens our mood. We even witnessed a Star Wars-themed dog birthday party – welcome to New York…
In the evening Alex met up with his friend Luka and some friends of his to ride down to Coney Island for the fireworks and some Pizza from Grimaldi’s. Franzi stayed home and spent some time with a hobby of hers – baking a puff pastry tarte, Turkish bread and a banana bread.
Saturday, we walked down to the Lower East side, had a falafel at Zyara (this is the closest we have found to a German Doener).
Later that day, by accident met another motorcycle lover – Giovanni. Alex saw an old BMW on the street, which he was photographing when Giovanni showed up and we got talking about his motorcycle. He even let Alex ride his bike around the block. We feel like this kind of openness and friendliness is a very American thing, again, welcome to New York!
On Sunday, we took a day trip to Connecticut and drove via Milford to Kent. We found the Riverview Waterfront Cookout in Seymour by accident and enjoyed some delicious BBQ food with a river view.
After a bit more riding, we stopped in Kent for some ice-cream at Kent Coffee & Chocolate Co. On the way back home, Franzi accomplished her first 1000 miles (1600km) with her motorcycle – who would have thought a year ago!
Since we had Monday off due to Labor Day weekend, we enjoyed another relaxing day and just explored some further corners of Soho and the Lower East Side. In the evening, we walked into Sephora and had the random idea of getting a full face of make-up for Franzi – you get this for free if you buy products above $50 and she’s always wanted to try this. Conclusion: looks nice on pictures, but certainly this thick layer of make-up feels too unnatural. We ended the evening with a dinner at Tre – a lovely Italian restaurant owned by our friend Gino.
