Today our adventure started. Following a small adrenaline rush yesterday night when our original SAS flight was cancelled 7 hours prior to departure, we arrived safe and sound in NYC. Luckily we were more or less immediately rebooked to a Lufthansa flight that actually had a more pleasant departure time than the original flight.
On time we arrived in Newark. Using an UBER for our four suitcases, two carry-on suitcases and two bags we quickly left the airport behind us. After about 45 minutes in heavy commuter traffic we arrived at our Airbnb apartment which is perfectly situated in the East Village (2nd Street East between Avenue A and B). Ranita, our host, is more or less at our age and gave us a warm welcome.
To wind up our first day we went to the restaurant root & bone, which is just around the corner from our temporary home. “Sweet tea brined fried chicken” and “bruleed spare ribs” alongside a cold IPA and Narragansett Lager allowed for immediate cultural immersion.
